Studying something new is mysterious. And curiousity is our best friend on the journey. But so are energy, enthusiasm and expectation good companions. We study to learn when we are young; we study to remember when we are older. But it's both the same: exercising our brain to dissolve the barriers between us and them, you and me. And to build all the necessary connections to whatever is new, whatever is real and to make it authentic whatever the story.

Once upon a time, well, it was many years ago, a boy went out for a walk one morning, just a short morning walk, so he didn't need to say goodbye to his mother or his grandmother. There was no need to because it was just a short walk. Just the boy and his dog out for a walk, a short walk in the morning. The dog's name was Rex and that morning the boy said, "Come on Rex. Let's go." And the boy and his dog went out for a walk.
But on the walk something happened, something not completely unusual but then not exactly usual, and the boy and his dog were gone not for a short time, but for a long time. A very very long time. And when the boy did return - many years later - nothing was the same. Everything was changed. His house was gone. His mother and his grandmother both were gone. And Rex? Where was Rex? What happened to his dog? But more important, what happened to the boy? What is the story of that boy and that walk and that unusual something that happened that morning a long time ago?

For children, I believe English learning should be as natural, and as fun, as possible. Young children especially learn from their environment so it’s important to expose them to as much vocabulary and culture as possible through exciting and stimulating activities and games, with basic grammar and workbook exercises as a sandwich to bind it together, and unlike us grow-ups they will magically remember everything they learn!

English Conversation is different from conventional English language studies because the focus is on practical listening and speaking skills rather than silent reading and writing. The grammar books are replaced with practical grammar points integrated into interesting topics with much chance to practice what you’re learning! At Vigor I teach English Conversation to both adults and children. I believe it’s important to have a flexible approach to teaching and tailor your lessons to suit the individual, whatever their motivations for learning our language. English is the international language of communication for business and travel so whether you’re interested in learning English for those all important meetings with foreign clients, to become a true asset to your company and not just another TOEIC statistic, as a hobby or to build life skills and self-confidence, or simply just to travel to unique and exciting locations and impress your friends with your travel English skills, Vigor is the place for you!
As honoured as I am to teach British English and talk about our European culture, it’s just as fun for me to learn about life in America and Canada as I journey through the textbook with my students, and my students have taught me so many interesting things about Japanese people and Japanese culture!
In addition, I particularly enjoy teaching Business English. I have a Masters in Business and my dream is to open my own business in Japan. Business cultures are very interesting, but often delicate and somewhat different from social cultures, and it’s great to introduce these aspects as we discuss company structure, international branding, marketing strategies and hypothetical meetings with foreign clients.
